Intermech, Inc., part of Luwa, Inc. developed and implemented its Nuclear Quality Assurance Program as the Bahnson Co. in the early 1970's. This program was initiated to support the company's fabrication and construction activities for the nuclear power generation industry. The Bahnson Co. was actively involved in the design, fabrication, installation and commissioning of air handling systems and/or ductwork systems for over 100 nuclear power plants that were constructed in the United States during the 1970's and 1980's. Major installations included the McGuire Nuclear Station, South Texas Project, Catawba Nuclear Station and Comanche Peak Nuclear Station projects, each exceeding $25 million at the time of contract.

After the current suspension of new nuclear plant construction in the United States, the company continued to support ongoing maintenance, commissioning and retrofit of HVAC systems in existing nuclear facilities. These activities required that the existing NQA programs be maintained and updated to meet regulatory requirements in effect.

In the 1990's, Intermech was awarded the HVAC ductwork fabrication and installation contract for the Umatilla Chemical Demilitarization Facility in Hermiston, OR. This $20 million dollar contract required demanding quality assurance programs, project execution and project management capabilities similar to those required in the nuclear field. Since the successful completion of that facility, the company has been awarded each additional Chemical Demilitarization Project initiated by the Department of Defense to date.

Today, Intermech continues to pursue contracts for mechanical systems for those projects requiring the highest levels of quality assurance, project management capabilities, safety programs and financial capability. With over 30 years of successful experience in these demanding industries, our commitment is to remain "best in class".
